Breaking News: James Comey Indicted and in Custody
Former FBI Director James Comey has been indicted and taken into custody this morning. This significant development comes after years of controversy surrounding his role in various investigations, including the handling of the Hillary Clinton email case and the Russian interference probe.
"We keep saying 'let's see a perp walk' - we finally got a perp walk," remarked Dave Smith, who along with Betsy Brantner Smith is filling in for regular host Kathleen Winn on KVOI's Win Tucson program.
The indictment has sparked immediate comparisons to former President Trump's legal challenges. "As the left continues to scream 'political prosecution,' let's not forget the much-anticipated Trump mugshot that actually helped catapult him back into the presidency," noted Betsy Smith.
Comey recently took to social media with what the hosts described as "a weird little video." The former FBI director's past testimony before Congress in September 2020 claimed the Steele dossier wasn't used in the 2016 intelligence community assessment on Russian interference. However, information released by Tulsi Gabbard in July reportedly showed the Steele dossier was directly cited in FBI reports under Comey's leadership.
"Obama intel officials overruled senior intel officials who said the CIA is garbage. Comey lied about multiple things," Smith asserted.
The hosts recalled Comey's press conference regarding Hillary Clinton's email investigation, where he methodically outlined potential charges before ultimately declining to recommend prosecution. "We sat there flabbergasted," Dave Smith remembered. "This is the kind of nonsense we have lived with in this country since Barack Obama got elected."
The Justice System Under Scrutiny
Questions remain about whether the American justice system can function fairly given the political environment. "It's already been assigned to a Biden-era judge," noted Dave Smith, adding, "We may see that the fix is in, but who knows?"
The hosts expressed frustration over what they view as a double standard in justice, pointing to the handling of classified documents found in President Biden's garage. "Joe Biden took documents from the White House as vice president, which is illegal. He stored them illegally in his garage in Delaware," said Betsy Smith. "But again, what did the investigators say? 'Yeah, Joe Biden did all this stuff, but nobody's gonna prosecute him because he's just a nice old man who really doesn't know what's going on.'"
This disparity in treatment compared to former President Trump's Mar-a-Lago documents case fuels their concerns about political prosecutions. "The White House read met regularly in the Biden administration to coordinate the prosecution, persecution, arrest of all our Republicans," Dave Smith claimed.
The hosts also discussed the prosecution of "faithless electors," arguing this represents another example of politically motivated legal action. "That's a constitutional right... and those people are being prosecuted. That costs them money, and no one notices, no one cares."
ICE Facility Shooting in Dallas
The conversation shifted to the recent attack on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) substation in Dallas, Texas. The shooter, identified as Joshua John, reportedly left writings and messages indicating he wanted to "terrorize" ICE agents and had been planning the attack for months.
"He has actually spent over 17,000 hours of online gaming in the last several months in what they call first-person shooter games," Betsy Smith reported. "This was aimed at killing his enemies."
The media coverage of the incident frustrated the hosts, who felt it neglected to highlight the heroism of ICE agents during the attack. "Those ICE agents got out while under fire and pulled out the injured illegals because they were shackled and handcuffed," Betsy Smith explained. "I listened to the press conference yesterday, and there were reporters going 'but why were they handcuffed, why were they shackled?' Because they're under arrest!"
The shooter used an 8-millimeter Mauser rifle, which the hosts described as "a very powerful rifle" comparable to an '06 with full metal jackets. "It's punching through the vehicles. It's punching through the walls. It's not a little 223," Dave Smith explained.
The hosts emphasized that the restraints used on detainees serve safety purposes for both the agents and those being transported. "Transporting vehicles have wrecks. You simply can't afford to have a fight in progress while you're traveling in your vehicle," Dave Smith noted.
The Shooter's Background and Radicalization
Joshua John, the 29-year-old shooter, had a digital footprint that the hosts connected to his actions. "He voted as a Democrat in multiple primaries. He posted on his social media a pro-communist profile picture," Betsy Smith said.
The hosts also mentioned details about the shooter's family, noting that his mother "constantly posts anti-Trump, anti-Second Amendment, anti-American things on her Facebook."
"They're investigating the entire family because the whole family is going to be under investigation," Betsy Smith added. "Obviously his parents knew that he was radicalized, and it would appear that at least his mother had a hand in radicalizing him."
The hosts connected the shooting to political rhetoric surrounding ICE, with Dave Smith stating, "This guy was inspired by and certainly instigated by a lot of the rhetoric coming from the left about ICE and again, us as Nazis."
Online Gaming and Its Potential Influence
The discussion turned to the role of gaming in the shooter's mindset, with Betsy Smith warning parents and grandparents about "what's happening in the online gaming community."
"It's not just playing the video games. There's a whole other world, it's a whole other network," she explained. "Even if they're playing quote-unquote 'harmless games' like Minecraft or things like that, we're seeing not just physical things like eye strain, poor health... we're also seeing in young men who spend a lot of time gaming... gaming addictions arise."
The hosts connected this to various communication platforms: "This is the same chat around or social media that the Charlie Kirk assassin used," referring to Discord.
Make America Healthy Again Movement
In the latter portion of the program, the hosts discussed the "Make America Healthy Again" (MAHA) movement, which they connected to Turning Point USA and the late Charlie Kirk.
"MAHA is near and dear to Charlie Kirk and it's near and dear to Erica Kirk," Betsy Smith said, noting that Erica Kirk would be hosting the Charlie Kirk Show following their program.
The health movement addresses vaccines, nutrition, and other wellness concerns. "We're starting to see the relationship between certain vaccinations and things like autism," suggested Betsy Smith, citing rising autism diagnosis rates from the 1970s through 2022.
The hosts also discussed controversial nutritional topics like seed oils: "Seed oils are so bad for you... seed oils are inflammatory. Processed food, most processed food is terrible for you," Betsy asserted.
Dave Smith expressed skepticism about the reliability of nutritional science: "There's very little science that's even trustworthy nowadays... When you tell me eggs are the deadliest sons of guns on the planet, they're going to kill you, and two glasses of wine is guaranteed a healthy heart, then the food pyramid came—the food pyramid is upside down, it's literally a diabetic factory."
The hosts praised the appointment of Dr. Ben Carson to the Trump administration, with Betsy Smith advocating for "use some logic" in nutrition: "Don't you know that processed crackers are probably bad for you and a fresh vegetable is probably good for you?"
Cultural Commentary: Serena Williams and Victimhood
In their final segment, the hosts criticized tennis star Serena Williams for a video she posted from a luxury hotel in New York City. According to the hosts, Williams expressed discomfort about cotton plant decorations in the hotel hallway.
"Serena Williams, multi-millionaire, she's worth about 300 million dollars... was staying in a five-star, very expensive, very fancy hotel in New York City, and she thought it was a great idea to post a video of some of the decor in the hallway because it was a cotton plant," Betsy Smith recounted.
"She was absolutely stunned to find out that people use cotton plants for decor, and she actually posted about this and says it doesn't feel really good because, I guess before Serena Williams was a famous tennis player and wildly wealthy, apparently she was a slave," she continued sarcastically.
The hosts pointed out what they saw as hypocrisy in Williams' reaction, noting that she has her own clothing line that uses cotton: "She makes a big deal on her website of talking about how they're made out of cotton."
Dave Smith connected this to broader cultural trends: "The cultural elite and the celebrity status to find a way to be a victim is to make yourself even more special."
Closing Thoughts on Justice
The hosts concluded by returning to the Comey indictment, seeing it as a positive step toward accountability. "We have been in an unjust society. We're rectifying it by using justice," Dave Smith stated.
They encouraged listeners to stay tuned for Erica Kirk hosting the Charlie Kirk Show following their program, a significant moment as she steps into her late husband's role.
